This course is designed to enable the student to learn the technical skills to operate a mechanical refrigeration system and to learn its purpose, function, components, and conditions.  The student will learn how to install and service various types of cooling equipment used for either personal comfort, food preservation, or industrial processes.  Topics to be covered include cooling systems, refrigeration systems, refrigeration cycle, supervision using temperature and pressure measuring instruments, components of a cooling system, major accessories for cooling systems and the operation of those systems, and piping of a refrigeration system. Course Objectives:demonstrate an understanding of how heat transfer occurs in a cooling system; calculate the temperature and pressure relationships at key points in the refrigeration cycle; demonstrate an understanding of the terms and concepts used in the refrigeration cycle; use temperature and pressure measuring instruments to record readings at key points in the refrigeration cycle while under supervision; identify commonly used refrigerants and demonstrate the procedures for handling these refrigerants; identify the major components of a cooling system and explain how each type works; identify the major accessories available for cooling systems and explain how each type works; identify the control devices used in the cooling systems and explain how each works; and demonstrate the ability to state the correct methods to be used when piping a refrigeration system. 202570 VOC Penn, Brian 08/27/2024 13:00 10/10/2024 16:35 Catonsville TR On-Site
